It’s been a while - Poetry

Its been a while

Poetry written by Skye Young

I stood upon the mountains

My soul grounding deep into the earth

The wind dancing around me like an old time film

Engulfing me in it’s stories

I held my long plaid dress in my hands

Walking up the hills of the countryside

Wild flowers colouring the view with the essence of a painting

Cows standing still in the shadows of the light

Rain falling on the dark night

Fog covering the sky of the mornings

The fire crackled with blank pages of a book

From unwritten words that are calling

Finding sanctuary in the silence

Inspiration once lost to time

Found in the spot where I left it

as I finally wrote, It’s been a while.

Inspiration lately has been lost to time and all that comes with our daily lives. Sometimes all it takes is a walk in nature, time away from all the noise and a little house on the top of the hill by the countryside, secluded from all things, to make you feel alive again. To reignite your ideas, your passions and desires to write, paint and create. Things that I’ve put aside for quite some time. I’m definitely more of a ‘mood’ creator as one would put it and someone who creates better alone or away from the clutter of our minds. When we put things off and move further away from the things that bring us joy, the more distant we get from our true selves.

This poem was inspired by a place called Treetops Sanctuary, a gorgeous house surrounded by 360 degree views on the Atherton Tablelands, Queensland Australia. I’ve had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful place twice and both times it has inspired my senses. Being surrounded by nature, farm animals and rolling hills that make you feel like your stepping into a book, a character in an old time film like the the Sound of Music or of course my favourite tv show Outlander.

Not only is the serene beauty of this place calming for the soul it's a photographers dream, for me at least. There is so much detail in the little pockets of the earth but even still, an image doesn’t do it justice on how beautiful the mountain views really are. Listening to the willie wagtails singing out my window in the mornings is an alarm I’m more than happy to endure. The warm days overlooking the country side and the crisp cold nights by the fire awakens your soul. Having moments like this make you realise how important the quiet is. To find comfortability in the silence.

Most the time we look straight past the beauty that surrounds our individual lives but taking a moment to really see the little details in the stillness makes our human experience on this earth worthwhile.

A life without creating looks colourless and my soul feels dull when I dont make time to honour that side of myself. So finding those little joys in life, those hobbies or activities that make you feel seen, heard and at peace really are important.

And so in saying that…. Hello, it’s been a while.
